Graduate Careers In The Property Sector – with Phoebe Maddever

Graduate Careers In Property

Phoebe graduated from OMBS in July 2023 and is now working for a global real estate company Savills in West London. She secured the role immediately after her graduation having completed her work experience placement with them.

Here she shares with us what it’s like to work in her first role in the property sector…

What is your current job role title, company name and sector, and where are you working in terms of location?

I am a Sales Co-ordinator for the property company Savills where I started just one week after graduating in July 23. I am based in London working in Notting Hill and living in West London.

Describe a typical day in your position for us…

I am up at 5.45am and head to the gym right opposite work, which is great as it means I miss the commuting time on the Tube.

I am at my desk by 8.30am and my first task is to respond to emails. My role involves liaising on the phone and email between clients, negotiators and suppliers such as photographers for example.

I am responsible for developing the brochures for our properties, many of which are high end! We also have regular sales meetings with the team.

I bring my lunch in with me, but always head out for a walk as Notting Hill is such a great place. We finish the day around 6pm and because I live in London the commute is just forty minutes door to door.

What do you love most about your role?

I really love the people! Everyone in my office is so nice. I learn a lot from my colleagues, and everyone is very supportive. The area the office is located in is also lovely and overall, I’m really enjoying the experience of living and working in London.

What skills learnt at OMBS have you found most beneficial to you in your position?

I use my Outlook skills and more specifically my Excel skills every day! The organisational IT skills I learnt have helped me so much. As I am using the phone so much for my role the telephone skills I learnt at OMBS has been so helpful.

I also use the Canva design skills I learnt in marketing to design social media posts for our local branch account.

How did studying with OMBS help you feel confident about your early career and getting your first role?

Knowing I had spent so much time learning practical skills meant I had so much confidence going into my first role.

Having my Outlook manual (an assignment in the first term) has really helped me have a backup to refer to in my role as well.

OMBS helped me hugely with my confidence. I can ask my colleagues for help on tasks that I am unsure about, and going to bigger and more important meetings with head office personnel hasn’t felt too daunting either.
