International Women's Day
This year, Sunday 8 March 2015, was International Women’s Day. Andrea Freeman, Principal of OMBS was personally invited to attend a London event celebrating it a little ahead of time on Friday 6 March 2015.
The event is hosted by Angela Mortimer, a leading London recruitment agency who OMBS work closely with to ensure employment for our students once they have completed the Executive PA Diploma course.
Mrs Freeman has previously been privileged to speak at this lunch event giving an insight into her successful career.
The guest speakers were Amanda Wakeley OBE (Founder of fashion label 'Amanda Wakeley'), Prue Leith CBE (Founder of Leith's group of catering/restaurant companies as well as a prolific food writer and TV presenter), Brigadier Nicky Moffat CME (most senior women in the British Army until December 2012; currently Founder/Director of 'What Good Leadership Looks Like') and Julie Ashmore (Head of SME Lending at HSBC) who all gave speeches about their careers.
There was also a Charity Prize Draw where all the funds went directly to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
International Women’s Day has been celebrated since the early 1900s. The new millennium has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life great improvements have been made.
Annually on this day in March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and to celebrate their achievements. OMBS is proud that we can be part of this day and hope that the skills we teach will hold each one of our graduates in good stead to take them to the top of their career ladder.
